Booking apps measure from bus stands and railway stations, some use straight-line distance, and some list the rail route, which is longer. That is why you will see Hassan listed anywhere from 35 km to 150 km. The road figures above are the ones to plan a drive on.
Use Google Maps on the day for live traffic. The table is the plan; the map is the drive.
Every inland route on this list meets at one town: Hassan.
How far is Hassan from Sakleshpur, and how is the road
Sakleshpur is about 40 km from Hassan on NH75, a 45-minute to one-hour drive. Hassan is the district headquarters and Sakleshpur is a taluk town in Hassan district, so every inland route, from Bengaluru, Mysuru or the Belur side, passes through or near Hassan.
On road condition, Team-BHP's March 2025 drive log rated the highway from the Sakleshpur bypass towards Bengaluru as excellent, with diversions for flyover work on the Hassan bypass. There is no ghat between Hassan and Sakleshpur. In the monsoon, rain and mist slow the last stretch, so plan to arrive in daylight.
By train it is about 42 km and 40 to 50 minutes. The Panchaganga Express leaves Hassan at about 9:40 pm and reaches Sakleshpur around 10:20 pm daily. Most of the other trains on this line pass in the small hours.
Buses take about an hour between the two towns; check KSRTC for timings on your day.
At under an hour each way, Hassan is the one city on this list where a day trip to Sakleshpur is easy. Mysuru reaches Sakleshpur on this same road, through Hassan.
How far is Mysuru (Mysore) from Sakleshpur, and which route should you take
Sakleshpur is about 150 to 160 km from Mysuru, 3 to 3.5 hours by car through Hassan. The route is easy to follow on the map:
- Leave Mysuru on NH 373 towards Krishnarajanagara (KR Nagar).
- Continue through Holenarasipura to Hassan, about 110 km from Mysuru.
- From Hassan, take NH75 west for about 40 km to Sakleshpur.
Some guides send Mysuru drivers through Hunsur. That road heads towards Coorg; the Hassan route is the direct one.
There is one direct train. It leaves Mysuru around 11:40 pm and reaches Sakleshpur around 3 am. Most people make this trip by car or cab, and Uber Intercity listed Mysuru to Sakleshpur from about ₹2,300 in October 2026.
Direct buses are few. Many travellers take a bus to Hassan and change there; Hassan to Sakleshpur is under an hour.
North of Hassan sits the other hill district next door, Chikkamagaluru.
How far is Sakleshpur from Chikkamagaluru (Chikmagalur), and which road is better
Sakleshpur is about 60 km from Chikkamagaluru, 1.5 to 2 hours by road. Two roads connect them, and the Chikmagalur to Sakleshpur distance is close enough that many people pair the two towns on one trip.
- The plains road runs through Belur on NH 373. It is wider and easier at night, and Belur's temples are the main tourist stop along the way.
- The forest road runs through Mudigere on a state highway, with ghat bends and coffee estates on both sides. It is the prettier drive in daylight, with more places to pull over for the view.
There is no practical train: the rail route runs the long way through Birur, about 135 km. Check KSRTC for buses, or drive.
The one route on this list with a real ghat climb comes up from the coast.
How far is Mangaluru (Mangalore) from Sakleshpur over the Shiradi Ghat
Sakleshpur is about 130 km from Mangaluru on NH75, about 3 hours, with Shiradi Ghat on the way. From Mangaluru the highway runs through Bantwal and Nellyadi to Gundya, then climbs Shiradi Ghat for about 36 km to the Sakleshpur bypass.
Shiradi Ghat is the stretch that closes after heavy monsoon landslides, so check its road condition on the morning you leave.
Mangaluru also has the nearest airport to Sakleshpur, about three hours by road.
The train is slower, about 4 to 5 hours, but a daytime train such as the Karwar to Yesvantpur Express (16516) climbs the ghat line through its 57 tunnels, the railway bridges you see in reels. Check the timetable on IRCTC or NTES.
KSRTC buses start at about ₹140 and take 3 to 4 hours; private buses cost more.
Travellers from Udupi climb the same ghat.
How far is Udupi from Sakleshpur, and which way should you drive
Sakleshpur is about 180 km from Udupi, 3.5 to 4 hours by road through Mangaluru. Drive south on NH 66 to Mangaluru, then follow NH75 inland over Shiradi Ghat. Everything in the Mangaluru section above, including the ghat status check, applies to this route.
Buses are the easy option: redBus listed about 18 a day from 11 operators in October 2026, about 4 hours, from about ₹700.
The rail route goes the long way round and takes about 6 hours or more, so the road is quicker. Here is how bus and train compare across all five cities.
Can you reach Sakleshpur by bus or train from these cities
Sakleshpur has a railway station (SKLR) and a KSRTC bus stand, but how useful each is depends on where you start.
From | Bus | Train
Hassan | About an hour | About 40 to 50 min; Panchaganga Express around 9:40 pm, others overnight
Mysuru | Few direct; change at Hassan | One direct train, arrives about 3 am
Chikkamagaluru | Check KSRTC | No practical train
Mangaluru | KSRTC from about ₹140, 3 to 4 h | 4 to 5 h; daytime trains cross the ghat line
Udupi | About 18 a day on redBus, about 4 h | Long way round, 6 h or more
Fares and timings as listed in October 2026; check KSRTC, redBus and IRCTC for your date.
Buses arrive at the KSRTC bus stand in Sakleshpur (enquiry 70220 30210); trains stop at Sakleshpur railway station (SKLR).
Several trains and buses reach Sakleshpur between midnight and dawn. If yours does, arrange your pickup before you start the trip. That leaves the question most people ask next: is one day enough from your city?
Is one day enough, or should you stay the night
A day trip to Sakleshpur works from Hassan and, at a push, Chikkamagaluru. From Mysuru, Mangaluru and Udupi the round trip is 6 to 8 hours of driving, so plan a night.
- Hassan: under an hour each way. A day works.
- Chikkamagaluru: 1.5 to 2 hours each way. A long day works, though a night is easier.
- Mysuru and Mangaluru: about 3 hours or more each way. Stay the night.
- Udupi: 3.5 to 4 hours each way. Stay the night.
The places around Sakleshpur, from Manjarabad Fort to the falls near town, take a day on their own. Travellers starting farther away have a few more things to plan.
Coming from Coorg, Chennai or Hyderabad instead
Coorg (Madikeri) is a little over 100 km from Sakleshpur by road; allow 3 to 4 hours for that distance.
From Bengaluru, Tumakuru or anywhere along that side, the route is NH75 through Hassan, about 220 km and 4 to 5 hours.
From Chennai or Hyderabad, the road comes through Bengaluru, so plan the Bengaluru leg first. If you fly, Mangaluru is the nearest airport, about three hours away.
Once you are in Sakleshpur, Bisle Ghat viewpoint is a separate drive out of town. Whichever way you come, the last stretch to your stay is the part to get right.
